My baby brother turned eighteen today! He’s the last one out of nine of us to reach adulthood and has already accomplished so much. He is a super smart high school student-soon to be graduate and has received awards and scholarships. He is an incredibly gifted artist and will be heading to the College for Creative Studies in Detroit this fall. I’m so proud of him and excited he will be closer over on the east side.

Here are couple of pics of Jojo and me. Oh, and Hillary is in the top pic too. I love all my siblings to pieces but there was a time when I wasn’t always nice, to them. Yah, there were nine of us, but I didn’t have anyone to look up to. I wished for years that I had an older sister, someone to share secrets with and go to for advice, all that. Being the second oldest and oldest girl I had a lot of responsibility given to me at a young age and as I headed into my teen years, I didn’t necessarily want it. I lived this whole other life outside my home that not many people knew about so I was playing two parts. My anger and frustration trickled into my life at home and I was not a nice person to be around…Except when it came to my baby brother Jordan.

I loved spending time with him. I spoiled him. He was definitely my favorite for a long time. I loved taking him to the park, out to eat, the store, everywhere. I just loved spending time with him. I couldn’t find the picture of my shrine. When I moved to England, I had a couple dozen pictures of Jordan plastered on one wall. It was awesome. I also have a picture of him when he’s three and wearing a cute dress with an even cuter smile on his face. He was so adorable. People used to think he was so smart because us sisters would teach him how to recite short words with their spelling. We would say it over and over again until he had it memorized and then we would say to our three year old brother, “Jordan spell the word toy.” Jordan would say, “Toy..T-O-Y..Toy!” Turns out, he is really smart. He is also still adorable.

My children love to make wishes when they find a penny. They will source out water to throw it into, whether it’s a water fountain, puddle in the driveway, pool, bathtub or sink full of water..even the toilet. Tonight they each found a penny at church and handed them to me so I could tuck them safely inside my bag. When we got home, Izzie gave me her penny so I could make a wish. I think she could tell I needed one or two or three..I made several and here they are in no particular order.

I wish…

I didn’t slam into the back of someone’s jeep this afternoon.
It had happened anywhere but Roseville.
I didn’t make Izzie cry because she didn’t want to be late for church.
I didn’t cry when faced with any kind of situation that involves authority.
I didn’t wreck my only mode of transportation.

The only good thing about today was the dead bird in the parking lot. While the officer was surveying the damage Noah was half hanging out the front window of the truck and shouted, “Mr. Officer, Sir..You’re standing on a dead bird!” The officer completely ignored him. I looked down at his foot and said, “Umm, actually you are standing on a dead bird Sir.”

Recipe from Bulk Herb Store

Bentonite Clay Toothpaste Recipe

(1 recipe makes 2 - 2 1/2 cups of toothpaste.)
3 Cups Water
1 Tablespoon Stevia Herb
1 1/2 Cups Cinnamon Sticks
4 Tablespoons Whole Cloves
1 Tablespoons Baking Soda
1 Teaspoon Celtic Sea Salt
1 - 1 1/2 Cups Bentonite Clay Powder

1. Mix the first four ingredients in a medium saucepan, and bring to a boil. Once it boils reduce heat to low, cover and simmer for 20 minutes. If the water boils away too much, add more as needed. You want to end up with about half the amount you started out with. While that’s heating, mix 1 tablespoon baking soda and 1 teaspoon Celtic Sea Salt and set aside.

2. Next place 1 cup of Bentonite Clay into a glass bowl. Note: it is important to use a glass bowl and wooden spoon because when the Bentonite Clay gets wet, it sets up an electromagnetic reaction which will absorb the particles inside of a metal bowl, or the toxins out of a plastic one.

3. Remove saucepan from heat and strain off herbs, catching the liquid in a glass bowl. (I strained it a second time using a paper towel and mason jar.) Slowly add the salt and baking soda mixture. Expect it to foam and bubble. This is the cinnamon and the baking soda reacting to each other. While it is still frothing, pour the liquid mixture into the bowl of Bentonite Clay, and whisk briskly. The foam will start to settle down and a smooth paste should start to form. Continue adding the remains of Bentonite Clay until the desired consistency is reached. Store in glass jars and avoid any contact with absorbable metals. (I put a piece of coffee filter under the top until the toothpaste is below the rim of the jar so that it won’t touch the top. If you use mason jars you can order plastic tops for them.) Brush once a day, and if you notice any gum sensitivities, remove the baking soda and salt from the recipe.

The Verdict: The kids and daddy love it!
